Mix seeds with compost, red clay powder (from a ceramics store), water, and just a pinch of sand until it has a cookie dough like consistency. The compost nourishes the seeds, the clay binds the ball and protects seeds from birds and insects, and the sand helps the seedling break apart of the ball. For red clay powder, try these resources: http://www.earthworksnyc.com/resource.php
